October Anna Bhagya DBT Status:
The Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Karnataka has started transferring the amount of beneficiaries under the Anna Bhagya Yojana to the bank accounts from Monday, July 10, 2023. The amount for the month of September is already available. Now the amount for the month of October needs to be deposited.
Under the Anna Bhagya Yojana, the Karnataka government has decided to pay a cash payment of Rs 34 per kg to the beneficiaries. Under the free rice scheme, for an additional 5 kg of rice, each member of the BPL family will be given Rs 34 for each member of the Antyodaya family.
Initially, the Government of Karnataka had decided to provide 10 kg of rice to the beneficiaries under this scheme. But after that, following the shortage of rice, the government made a slight change in the scheme and said that 5 kg of rice will be given. The government is paying cash for the remaining 5 kg of rice at the rate of Rs 34 per kg.
Funds are transferred directly to beneficiary bank accounts linked to Aadhaar numbers of BPL family heads. According to the state government, Karnataka has 1.28 crore ration cards of ‘Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Priority Families’.
99 percent of these cards are frozen with Aadhaar number. The state government said that 82 per cent (1.06 crore) of these cards are linked with active bank accounts.
Annabhagya Yojana Launch:
Annabhagya Yojana is not a new scheme among the five schemes. This is a project that was started about ten years ago. The ‘Annabhagya’ scheme was implemented in the state from July 2013 by the then CM Siddaramaiah. After the implementation of this scheme, the amount of ration distributed to each BPL family under the public distribution system has been increased.
Before 2013, a BPL family member was given a minimum of 4 kg of rice and 1 kg of wheat and a maximum of 20 kg of rice and 3 kg of wheat per family. But under this Annabhagya Yojana, since 2015, eligible BPL single member families were getting 10 kg, 20 kg for two member families, 30 kg for families with 3 and more members at the rate of one rupee per kg.

Muniyappa said that after the government finalizes the list of drought-affected taluks, the rice distribution will be started. At present, due to insufficient stock of rice, the government is providing financial assistance to the beneficiaries instead of additional 5 kg of rice as promised in the Congress manifesto. In the next ten days, the state government will take a decision to distribute 10 kg of rice to each beneficiary. “We are in discussions with Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Chhattisgarh to get rice at lower prices,” he said.
